Ms. Shauna Avila

My philosophy toward childcare is to provide a safe, well-balanced, and rewarding experience that encourages psychosocial well-being as well as academics. A child’s sense of positive regard among his/her peers and teachers assures that they are better able to effectively utilize their academic skills for a productive adult life. Providing and teaching good nutrition to our kids every day is also a critical part of forming healthy lifestyle habits and building healthy brains that can learn.

I have been involved in early childhood development since1989. I have taught in the Salt Lake and Granite School Districts and a Salt Lake County homeless shelter Second Step Program. For two years I worked with Holy Cross Ministries creating child care centers for ESL parents. I worked as Director for two separate child care centers before starting my own center. In 2007, I merged my daycare with Bennion Learning Center at 3337 W 6200 South in Taylorsville where we provide child care for infants to 12 years old, serving nine elementary schools. Through Bennion Learning Center I have been able to successfully upgrade the quality and quantity of our programing to meet diverse needs of our families. I have continued to improve my skills through regular and ongoing educational opportunities, obtained State grants, and presented on after school childhood programing at the 2010 Utah Professional Child Care Association conference.
